Help SDGP keep our third South Hams District Councillor
Dr John Green - candidate in Totnes by-election (8th October)
In May this year, South Devon Green Party successfully retained our three Councillors on South Hams District Council, in the Totnes ward. This was very significant as the number of councillors had been reduced from forty-one to thirty-one and the Conservatives managed to gain twenty-five seats out of thirty-one. Unfortunately one of our newly elected councilors, Barrie Wood, has had to resign from the position due to ill health and so we now have a battle on our hands to regain the seat.
A by-election has been called to fill this councilor vacancy and this will take place on the 8th October. It is vital that a Green Party candidate is elected, to represent all of us who wish to see a more socially-just society in which we reduce our global and local environmental footprint.
Before the SDGP AGM on Saturday 5th September the party selected Dr John Green as our candidate in the by-election and we now need your help to get him elected. In order to win this election we need to deliver 4,500 leaflets between Monday 21st September and Friday 25th September, before the postal votes arrive on the doorsteps. If you have delivered leaflets for any of our candidates in Totnes before or are willing to give it a go it would be great to hear from you. We also need people to support Green Party stalls on Totnes High Street, over the coming weeks.
There is a campaign meeting on Sunday 20th September between 6-9pm in Dartington Village Hall, at which we’ll be giving out bundles of leaflets, posters and providing training in canvassing. Please come along if you can on the 20th , but if you can help with this campaign in any way please email firstname.lastname@example.org indicating what you are happy to do.
