Gill Coombs, our parliamentary candidate for the Totnes constituency, attended the Police Commissioner's Briefing in Exeter on Wednesday, 18th February. This is what she had to say:
"The Police Commissioner's briefing gave food for thought. The three greatest areas of concern for policing in Devon are alcohol, mental health and lack of police funding.
The police force, like every other public service, are under increasing strain trying to keep up with societal problems. More funding might be helpful, but a Green government would be looking 'upstream' to why alcohol and mental health are such problems: addressing issues such as inequality, the loss of meaningful work and the breakdown of community, all caused largely by a capitalist paradigm that consistently values profit above wellbeing and has lost sight of values in its focus on statistics."
